Created to keep safe precious letters and goodwill notes from family and fellow soldiers, this Walnut Memory Box is decorated on the outside in exquisite Marquetry for all to see and recall great adventures over Stanage Edge, endless walks and memorable conversations.
The pathway represents a family's celebration of a son's life and ultimate sacrifice as a young and heroic soldier.
A well trodden path in Satinwood leads from an old pair of comfortable boots, in fruitwood and ebony. The path weaves its way over a pebble stream, through heather-covered hills, disappearing into a craggy hill beyond; all in Bird's Eye Maple, Sycamore, Ziricote and Dyed Lime.
A ray of light emerged from the rocks and sunbeams peep through the clouds, illuminating a hovering kestrel, all in Maple Lacewood and Walnut, and encompassed in Macassa strung in Boxwood.
On opening the lid the interior is decorated in the form of an envelope inlaid with his signature and the two kisses he always sent.
